Recently, guide2research website released the ranking of top scientists in the field of computer science and electronics in 2020. The ranking aims to provide more visibility to the academic community and let more people understand the influential research contributions in the field of computer science.


The ranking collected data of more than 6000 scientists, and evaluated them according to h-index, DBLP, citation and other indicators, from which top 1000 scientists were selected.

Country and agency rankings


This latest ranking of computer scientists reflects the following facts:

In this ranking, the number of American scientists still dominates, 616 of which are selected, accounting for 61.6% of the total. Eight of the top 10 scientists are from the United States (the other two are from Canada). Compared with 621 scientists on the 2018 list, the dominance of the United States has not changed much.


Other countries with a high proportion are the United Kingdom (55, 5.5%), Germany (38, 3.8%), Canada (37, 3.7%), Switzerland (34, 3.4%)


There is a significant increase in the number of scientists on the list in Asia, with 55 scientists on the list, compared with 37 in 2018.


The number of scientists on the list in Germany and France has declined, including 38 scientists in Germany from 44 in 2018 and 14 in France from 17 in 2018.



In 2020, the number of Top 1000 scientists in computer science and electronics in different countries will be on the list.


In 2020, MIT has 44 computer scientists on the list, accounting for 4.4%. MIT has also become the highest proportion of research institutions on the list, surpassing Stanford University for the first time. Among other research institutions, the University of California, Berkeley and Princeton University have significantly improved from 24 to 35, and from 9 to 14, respectively.


The largest number of private companies on the list are Google (17) and Microsoft (12). Among them, the number of Microsoft Research Institutes on the list has declined significantly, from 25 in 2018 to 12 in 2020.


Among the top 1000 scientists in computer science and electronics in the world in 2020, the organization with the largest number of people on the list.


In this list, 14 scientists have won the Turing Award, 302 scientists have been elected ACM fellow, 425 scientists have been elected IEEE fellow and 93 scientists have been elected AAAI fellow.


The average H-index of top 1% scientists is 167, while that of all 1000 scientists is 85.

Among them, Michael I. Jordan, a statistical machine learning bull we are familiar with, ranks fourth in the list, while Geoffrey Hinton and yoshua bengio, who won the Turing Award in 2018, ranked ninth and tenth in the list.


In addition, there are two Chinese scholars in top 10 computer scientists, namely, Jiawei Han, Professor of computer science at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, and Philip S. Yu, Professor of information technology at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
