On 10 November, Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) convenes the Opening Ceremony of the First Conference of the International Science, Technology and Innovation Forum of BFA (ISTIF) in Macau. Li Baodong, Secretary-General of BFA, presided over the opening ceremony and made remarks.

Li said that under the background of global COVID-19 pandemic, thanks to the successful control of the COVID-19 pandemic by the government of China and the government of Macao Special Administrative Region, the first ISTIF conference is now able to be convened in Macao. Secretary General Li expressed deep appreciation of the strong support to the government of China, the host country of BFA and the government of Macao Special Administrative Region. His thanks also went to BFA Board of Directors, Council of advisors, initial countries, members and partners for their support to the Boao Forum and this conference. He also took the opportunity to thank all parties including international organizations for their hard work in preparing for the Conference. In the congratulatory letter sent to the Conference, President Xi outlined the trends in global development and sci-tech innovation, and articulated China’’s aspiration and confidence in joining hands with all countries in maximizing the benefit of sci-tech innovation for the people around world. Participants of the conference are greatly encouraged by President Xi’’s message. The keynote speech made by Chinese Vice Premier Han Zheng sent out a positive message that China will stick to opening up and innovation, pursue win-win cooperation and promote common prosperity. We believe China’’s innovation-driven strategy and application of innovative technologies will help the international community to better address global challenges and build synergies for sustainable development.

Secretary General Li pointed out that in today’’s world, a new round of technological and industrial revolution is emerging, and profound changes are taking place in global development landscape. Reform and Innovation is the fundamental force driving human progress. All participants are gathered here in Macao to build a high-level and comprehensive international platform of dialogue and cooperation in the area of sci-tech innovation. Secretary General Li said that hoping this initiative will facilitate the effort to control the variables of sci-tech innovation and accelerate the creation of new driving forces so as to pool strengths for global economic recovery and a new global development landscape.
