Mr. Zhao Houlin, ITU Secretary-General addressed the 1st International Science, Technology and Innovation Forum

On November 10, the First Conference of International Science, Technology and Innovation Forum of Boao Forum for Asia opened in Macau. Mr. Zhao Houlin, ITU Secretary-General joined online and delivered a congratulatory message to this conference.

Mr. Zhao commended China’s remarkable achievements in science, technology and innovation (STI), notably in 5G technology, Beidou Navigation Satellite System and Tianwen 1 Mars probe. In the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, 5G technology, among other latest STI achievements have unleased tremendous potential. Established as central to the country’s overall development plans, STI will usher in a new era of development. As active players in the international arena, Chinese STI workers have continuously contributed to the international STI development with Chinese wisdom and Chinese solutions, facilitating international cooperation and joint development. ITU commended China for its continuous support for and contribution to STI development across the world.

Mr. Zhao appreciated the relevance of ISTIF sessions to science, technology and innovation, which are areas that remain essential to the wellbeing of mankind and economic development. In line with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, the ISTIF sessions serve the purpose of empowering sustainable development worldwide.
