Carrie Lam: Building Hong Kong into an international center for innovation and technology; integrating Hong Kong and Macau into China’s overall development plan


The first Conference of International Science, Technology and Innovation Forum of Boao Forum for Asia opens in Macau SAR on November 10. Ms. Carrie Lam, Chief Executive of Hong Kong SAR, affirmed Hong Kong’’s commitment to work with Macau and contribute to the development of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area as an international center for science, technology and innovation (STI).

With the focus on impetus for innovation, innovation and life as well as cooperation and innovation, Carrie Lam briefed on Hong Kong’’s efforts and vision on STI development. Highlighting that Hong Kong attaches great importance to STI investment, Lam noted that Hong Kong has adopted various measures to breathe new life into STI development, contributing to improved STI global ranking and wider international recognition of the region. Hong Kong has fully leveraged science and technology in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and facilitate people’’s daily lives.

Carrie Lam noted that with support from the central government, STI development in Hong Kong has been elevated to the national level. The 14th five-year Plan proposes to support Hong Kong SAR in consolidating its competitive edge, build Hong Kong into an international center for innovation and technology, and integrate Hong Kong and Macau into national development landscape. The Hong Kong Government will seize the development opportunities brought about by the Greater Bay Area, make vigorous efforts to promote STI development, deepen cooperation on innovation with various regions, especially the mainland, with an aim to gain impetus for innovation and deliver better lives for people.
